Join Petworth Author Roger Morgan-Grenville for an evening in the Cowdray Walled Garden to celebrate the launch of his new book, Taking Stock.
Author of Liquid Gold and Shearwater, Petworth resident Roger Morgan-Grenville had previously lived life as a soldier from 1978-86, and helped to set up the charity Help for Heroes. At the age of 61 and with no farming experience, he chose to sign on as a part-time labourer on a beef cattle farm. The result of hearing their side of the story is his new lyrical and evocative book Taking Stock.
Join us for a fascinating and insightful evening of thought provoking conversation as we celebrate the launch of Taking Stock, looking at how for 10,000 years the lives of cow’s and human’s have been intertwined. Cattle have existed alongside us, fed and shod us, quenched our thirst, and provided a thousand other tiny services, and yet most of us know little about them. Part history, part adventure and part unsentimental manifesto for how we should treat cows in the 21st century, Taking Stock asks us to think carefully about what we eat, and to let nature back into food production.
Roger’s talk will include an opportunity for audience Q&A’s, followed by a short book signing session. Please note that the ticket price does not include a copy of Taking Stock, however Petworth Bookshop will be in attendance on the night with a selection of Roger’s books available to purchase. There is no ticket fee for under 16’s.
Refreshments will be available on the evening, and guests will also have the opportunity to relax and explore the beautiful Walled Garden, only accessible at private events.View all events
