Gold Cup Final

The King Power Gold Cup Final 2019

Cowdray Park Polo Club at Midhurst welcomed over 12,000 visitors on Sunday 21st July for the Final of the King Power Gold Cup for the British Open Polo Championship.

Visitors streamed in early to grab the best picnic spots and enjoy a variety of entertainments ahead of one of the most thrilling Finals of recent years.

Nic Fiddian-Green’s sculpture of a drinking horse’s head formed the centrepiece of the retail village and bar areas – complete with bandstand – where a variety of singers entertained throughout the day.  A traditional funfair with helter skelter and gallopers pleased every age, the Petworth Town Band marched up and down the picnic lines as they have done for so many years and the RAF Falcons dropped onto the pitch before the start of the all-important Final of the British Open, which ended with a 13-12 victory to Dubai in extra time.

Many spectators lingered until late in the evening to enjoy a last glass of Nyetimber English sparkling wine while taking in the stunning views towards the Cowdray Ruins.
