Life on the Estate: May

May

The sun finally came out in May, and it felt like summer was on its way. The Walled Garden Wedding Open day was blessed with beautiful blue skies and a soft breeze on Sunday 12th May.

Couples and their families and friends were given the chance to explore the hidden delights of Cowdray’s Walled Garden as well as gain inspiration for a magical wedding.

Florists, caterers, photographers, wedding stylists, cake makers and many more carefully chosen exhibitors were on hand along with Cowdray’s experienced wedding team to discuss everything couples needed to know about saying ‘I do’ in this glorious setting.

May is also the month when the Farm Shop is filled with seasonal summer produce from local suppliers. Amazing produce includes freshly harvested asparagus from Slade Farm in Rogate, Nutbourne Tomatoes from Pulborough, and Ed’s Veg from Liphook.

BBQ boxes and picnic hampers are also proved very popular this month.

Preparations are also well underway across the Estate for a busy summer season ahead. The Farms team have started prepping and planting the Maize Maze site. The maize area has been ploughed and some Spring Triticale (wheat/rye cross), buckwheat and phacelia have been planted. Sunflowers have also been drilled along with wildflowers.

Planning has also continued apace to get ready for the Midhurst Town Cup. This free, fun family polo day takes place on Sunday 30th June featuring high-goal polo and a range of entertainment. To find out more, and to register for free tickets, please visit: www.cowdraypolo.co.uk/midhurst-town-cup/
