Thursdays

Charlotte Wise: Yin Yoga & Pilates

Charlotte Wise: Yin Yoga & Pilates

Pilates - Thursday: 12.30pm-1.30pm | Yin Yoga - Thursday: 1.30pm-2.30pm

Charlotte has always loved connecting to the body, and guiding others to do the same. She began her study 30 years ago with a Sport Science degree and has studied ever since; Pilates, Yoga, Reiki, Bodywork and Flower Essences. She worked for 30 years in London and now lives in Midhurst.

One of her greatest passions is yin yoga, largely as it has had such a profound impact on her life and wellbeing. Yin yoga is a practice in slowing down, permitting rest and journeying inwards. In Yin yoga we target the fascia and deeper tissues of the body releasing tension and creating ease of movement.

Yin Yoga encourages us to feel, to re-connect to our Self. It is both a deep, and deeply relaxing experience. Yin yoga invites you to R E S T deeply. We hold a series of poses for several minutes each, with many props; cushions, pillows, blankets to make the experience as supported as possible. In this place we cultivate stillness and observe as the body softly releases. Expect a release of deeply held tension; physically and emotionally as the two are intertwined. Expect to feel deep connection to yourself return, as we feel rather than think and ‘be’ rather than ‘do’. The gift we all need, slowing down and becoming grounded and present.

Pilates is well regarded as a key movement practise for enhancing our mobility, flexibility, and stability. In our Pilates classes we’ll build strength from the core out and enhance your posture and proprioception; helping us develop strength, endurance, and flexibility in all the muscles and connective tissue of our body’s core – in short anything that supports your pelvis, spine, and shoulder girdle.

You can expect to enjoy more controlled movement, better balance and to experience more comfort and ease in your daily activities. The additional awareness of your breath will aid in relaxation.

In Charlotte’s classes all are welcome. Adaptions, variations, and modifications are the norm as we are all unique. Come as you are, leave feeling better!

Richard Frost: Deep Inner Education for Personal Empowerment

Richard Frost: Deep Inner Education for Personal Empowerment

Richard Frost founded Twenty2Beyond because he believes in the importance of us all taking more control over our lives, enjoying them more, and directing them forwards in ways we care about. He also believes in us all needing to be better humans, for ourselves, for our intimate communities, and for the wider world.

To these ends, Richard's mission is to help normalise access to a deep inner education that enables you to develop a steadier way of being, be kinder to yourself and others, and grow your life in ways you accept and value, both in terms of who you are and what you do.

Richard’s Growing Your Life Foundation Course is designed as an introduction to this work. The aim of the course is for you to work practically and thoughtfully through several components – such as different forms of awareness, acceptance, ideas of autonomy and meaning, reflection, value and action, discernment, focus, and direction – so that you start to feel more in control of your life and your thoughts. This happens in ways you both accept and value more, and where you can see a path forward for these to improve over time. All work is done within the course’s Growing Your Life Learning Framework.

His work at Twenty2Beyond helps with the right kind of focus and learnings, both ongoing and at the right times in your life, whether in your 20s, 40s, 60s, or anywhere else in between or beyond.

Claire Best has been teaching yoga for over 20 years and enjoys supporting people on their journey of self-enquiry, transformation and relaxation. She holds 3 weekly yoga classes and monthly well-being events at Cowdray Hall.

Claire has completed four years of rigorous Iyengar Yoga teacher training and is a Level 2 Iyengar yoga teacher. Originally trained to be a classical ballet dancer, she was a yoga performer with ‘Tripsichore Yoga Theatre’ Company for 6 years. She also led Ashtanga Yoga and Vinyasa Flow yoga classes at Triyoga in London for 10 years and taught ‘Body Awareness/Yoga’ at a drama school. Claire started teaching only the Iyengar Yoga method in 2019 as she believes this method enables the practitioner to deepen their understanding of themselves and the yoga postures in a safe, progressive way.

The physical aspect of The Iyengar Yoga method focuses on directivity, extension and action of certain parts of the body to achieve alignment in the posture. Alignment of the skeletal-muscular system is one of the ways to open the door to alignment and clarity of the mind. Pranayama/breathing exercises are also practiced at the end of the month to prepare the mind for concentration and awareness. Claire demonstrates the postures with clear instruction, repetition and creates excellent sequencing to enable the practitioner to achieve the posture. Props like blocks, belts and blankets are used to help attain the asana by supporting the body according to individual needs.

Claire is also a qualified Shiatsu therapist practicing in Midhurst and is a sound healer holding transformative sound baths at monthly well-being events at Cowdray Hall.
