Cowdray House Q&A with Amber de Savary

Located at the heart of the Estate, Cowdray House lends itself to weddings and celebrations. Whether you are planning an extravagant weekend-long celebration or a more intimate affair, we guarantee that you and your guests will leave with memories that will last a lifetime.

After winding down the sweeping driveway, guests are welcomed by manicured gardens and the breath-taking views over the rolling hills of the South Downs that surround the house. With three licensed ceremony locations, 22 luxurious bedrooms and bathrooms, opulent reception rooms, a bowling alley, and an indoor and outdoor pool, Cowdray House is a magical location for hosting your wedding or celebration.

To help in planning your perfect wedding, we caught up with Sales Executive Amber de Savary to answer some of the top FAQ’s received about hosting a wedding at Cowdray House

Q: Do we hire the House for just the day?

A: The hire of the House starts with a 24 hour hire but a lot of couples decide to stay a little longer and might add in the night before the wedding or the night after.

Q: Do round or long tables work better at Cowdray House?

A: We can host both. We can do 150 guests on long tables, or 120 on round tables.

Q: What is your favourite time of year for a Cowdray House wedding?

A: We really cannot pick! Spring and summer are amazing as the gardens are spectacular, but then come autumn when the leaves change colour it transforms into this magical winter wedding venue, with roaring fires, Christmas lights and cosiness. We are very lucky.

Q: What facilities do you have?

A: Our couples and their guests can enjoy some of our wonderful facilities including: indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a bowling alley, billiards room, tennis court and croquet lawn.

Q: Do you host a lot of weddings?

A: We actually only host around 20 weddings a year. We like to offer our couples a five star planning service and therefore only having 20 couples means we can give you a huge amount of attention throughout your wedding journey.

Q: What is your cheapest package?

A: We don’t offer packages, but instead have venue hire prices. Prices do vary depending on the time of year you want to get married so do get in touch to find out more detail: houseevents@cowdray.co.uk  or call 01730 814522.

Q: What’s included in the price?

A: Our pricing includes the venue hire, all the bedrooms and a delicious breakfast for those guests staying over. Please contact us directly for details on pricing: houseevents@cowdray.co.uk  or call 01730 814522.

Q: Can we get married in the House?

A: Yes absolutely! We are licensed both inside Buck Hall for larger groups or The Dining Room for more intimate weddings. We have a few options outside too!

Q: Can our guests stay the night?

A: Yes! One of the best parts of a Cowdray House wedding is that 50 of your guests can stay in the House itself so the party doesn’t end at the end of the night!

We have 22 double and 2 single rooms in the House itself and can sleep up to 80 across the Estate.

Q: Do you work with or can you recommend any churches nearby to use for the ceremony?

A: Yes. We can recommend some beautiful local churches. The local church in the village is wonderful and a lot of our couples get married there.

Q: Which is your favourite bedroom in the House?

A: I love Diamond for the Bride and Groom, but actually Citrine, which is one of the more intimate bedrooms, is my favourite. It’s just so snug and luxurious!

Q: Can we have fireworks?

A: Absolutely! We love a firework finish outside the front of the House. Sparklers are also a really fun way to end the main wedding!
