Assistant Greenkeeper 

Cowdray Golf Club is an exceptional downland course, playable all year round and boasts unrivalled views of the surrounding South Downs. The excellent condition and presentation of the course is testament to a committed team and due to the recent course improvement project and build of a new Par 3 Course, an opportunity has arisen to join this team for the position of Assistant Greenkeeper. The position is full-time, (39 hours per week), and a flexible approach is required along with some weekend, (overtime) work, according to a rota system.

The main duties include but are not restricted to:

  • Assisting the team in all aspects of greenkeeping, including: cutting all playing surfaces, changing holes, setting up golf course for play, preparing bunkers, buggy management, Driving Range management
  • Ensuring that the course is presented in the best possible condition to exceed the expectations of members and visitors alike
  • Assisting with construction, renovation and aeration works
  • Able to safely operate a wide range of golf course machinery
  • Undertake specific training on machinery and other working practices

The successful candidate should possess the following attributes:

  • A very strong work ethic, coupled with excellent time keeping
  • A positive team player who has equal ability to work productively on their own
  • Have an excellent attention to detail
  • To always look for improvements and to work with care and consideration of equipment
  • Complete tasks in line with Health and Safety regulations
  • A full clean UK Driver’s License
  • Have golfing experience
  • Mechanical experience, (desirable but not essential)
  • Relevant greenkeeping or horticulture qualifications, (either achieved, working towards or aspirational)
