Pirates & Smugglers Takeover at Cowdray’s Maize Maze with the Cowdray Heritage Trust

  • This event has passed.

Please note tickets for today’s event are now only available at the gate. We can’t wait to welcome you to this special day at the Maize Maze!

Ahoy, me Hearties!

Join us at the Maize Maze on Saturday 2nd of September and see if you can spot the pirates and smugglers as part of a special day of family fun with the Cowdray Heritage Trust. Intrepid maze-goers will take part in some have-a-go activities and learn about the surprising history of piracy in 18th century Sussex with our very own Pirate Captain Paul Ullson of the Raven Tor History Group. Explore the Maze on your own treasure hunt collecting a Maize Maze stamp sheet and have a go at creating wooden spoon pirates. Why not dress up for the day and explore the maze!

At 11am and 2pm our Pirate Captain will tell you a bit more about smuggling in the 18th century, followed by a combat demonstration from the Pirates!

Please Note: Have-a go-activities are subject to availability and there will be a small charge for additional have-a-go-activities.

Once you’ve completed the Maze, make sure to stop off and enjoy a range of delicious refreshments. Alongside the Maize Maze, we are proud to offer a Sunflower Picking Patch. Walk amongst these amazing giant flowers and pick your very own to take home with you. A proportion of the sale of sunflowers will be donated to Ukraine Sunflower Aid.

Pre-booking is recommended, although payment will be possible on the day at the gate. Please note that a small additional charge is required for the Sunflower Picking Patch and activities, which can be paid on the day. A percentage of the ticket sales will be donated to Cowdray’s nominated charity for 2023 Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex.
