Cowdray History Book

£12.00

‘The Story of Cowdray’ focuses on the history of the Four Viscount Cowdrays: Sir Weetman, Harold, John and the current Lord Cowdray, Michael. The family’s custodianship of the Estate began in 1909 when Sir Weetman Dickinson Pearson purchased the Estate.

The booklet also provides a detailed historical account of Cowdray Ruins, which was built as a great fortified Tudor mansion. It’s construction began in 1520, being virtually complete by 1542. Visited by King Henry VIII and Elizabeth I, the house was partially destroyed by fire in 1793 and has not been inhabited since. The publication also provides an overview on the Estate’s flourishing modern enterprises including the Farm Shop & Café, Cowdray Polo and a thriving events business.

The aim of the booklet is to bring together historical and contemporary information and in doing so tell the story of the Cowdray Estate.
