After the success of last summer’s event, the Maize Maze is returning this year with a theme of ‘Farming Through the Ages’. This involves Farmer Barney reflecting on farming practices including how they have developed from the Stone Age as well as him discussing future farming techniques.
Bigger and better than last year, this year’s maze promises a challenge for all ages. With its horse, plough and tractor design, the Maize Maze is a fun summer day out for everyone. It features a stamp trail, viewing platform as well as teas, coffees and light refreshments provided by the Farm Shop Café. There is even a Cowdray Lifestyle pop-up to browse in.

What to expect
Maize Maze
At the start of the trail, young maze-goers are given our Maize Maze stamp sheet to complete as they weave their way through the train, collecting eight hidden stamps along the way, learning about Farming at Cowdray.
Flower Picking Patch
Once you’ve completed the Maze visit our flower Picking Patch. Walk amongst the amazing giant sunflowers and glorious blue cornflowers whilst picking your own bunch to buy (£5) and take home to enjoy.

Planting in the Spring
Sown early in the spring, the Maize Maze is ready in time for opening in August. Barney and his team of farmers keep a close eye on the Maize as “if the Maize is at knee-high by the 4th of July, you’re in for a good crop!"

Summer Fun for the whole family
Venturing through our six-foot high Maize Maze is a perfect way to spend a summer's day. Embark on an exciting adventure where fun meets challenge as you help Farmer Barney round up his lost animals while learning about farming and the environment.

Autumn Harvest
In the Autumn the Maze Maize and sunflower picking patch are both harvested and turned into into silage to feed our 300 strong dairy herd over the winter, before work begins on next year's Maize Maze!
